Install Recall
About ten minutes, most of it granting permissions. Every feature works without its permission until you grant it; it just shows a "Grant access" row in Settings.
Requirements
Build from source
Recall isn't available to download yet, and the source isn't public yet. When it is, you'll build it with the Swift command-line tools. No Xcode needed. The steps below show what that will look like.
Recall has a Dock icon, a menu-bar icon and the island, which floats at the top of your screen. Idle, it uses under 150 MB of memory and close to no CPU.
Bring your own AI
Use a subscription (Claude through Claude Code, ChatGPT through Codex), an API key (Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, OpenRouter) or a local model (Ollama, LM Studio). Keys go in Settings › AI and are stored in your Keychain. The engine you pick runs the whole app: chat, triage, your brief, meetings and voice. The chip in the chat box shows the exact model, how much context is used and how much of your plan is left.
For a Claude subscription: install Claude Code, run claude, and sign in when it asks.
Coming soon: Recall's setup will install the engine and open its sign-in for you. More on bringing your own AI ›
Permissions
Grant these in System Settings › Privacy & Security. Recall asks for each the first time a feature needs it.
Hotkeys
Pair your iPhone
The phone server is off until you turn it on. It only listens on your local network and Tailscale, never the public internet. Revoke a phone any time in Settings › iPhone.
Where your data lives
Meeting notes, transcripts and state are plain files on your Mac.
Uninstall
Recall doesn't change your hooks, scripts or system settings, so removing it is three lines.
